Sigur Rós make the most magical music ever. As utterly unique as fellow Icelander Bjork, Sigur Rós’s sound is minimal, melodic and almost classical; a mix of guitars, lush strings, brass and piano. The fact they sing in Icelandic and a made-up language called Vonlenska matters not a jot, it simply adds to the other-worldiness of their hauntingly beautiful melodies. Played loud late at night, they have the power to leave you weeping into your Kleenex yet feeling strangely elated. Why their music has never been offered as a cheaper and much healthier alternative to methadone is a mystery.
